Open source k6 load testing tool and Grafana Cloud testing platform
Grafana Cloud k6 is the performance and load testing platform of Grafana Labs, built on k6, its open source load testing tool. It succeeds Load Impact, which became k6 before being acquired by Grafana Labs; the loadimpact.com domain no longer exists.
With k6, tests are written as code in JavaScript and executed by an engine written in Go, so they can be reused, modularised, versioned and integrated into continuous integration. k6 supports HTTP, WebSockets, gRPC and browser testing through a Playwright-inspired browser API that captures Web Vitals metrics. Thresholds define pass/fail criteria, metrics can be exported to the storage service of choice, and a large ecosystem of extensions adds further capabilities. Scripts run from the command line, in CI or across a Kubernetes cluster, and k6 Studio is a desktop application that generates scripts without writing code.
Grafana Cloud k6 runs tests at scale from more than 20 geographic locations or from Private Load Zones for internal systems, and correlates load test results with server-side observability data. The k6 tool is open source under the AGPL-3.0 and actively developed on GitHub (version 2.3.0 in September 2026); the cloud service has a free tier.
