Data::Anonymization

Ruby tool for building anonymized copies of production databases

Tool overview

Data::Anonymization is a tool that builds anonymized copies of production databases for testing. Anonymization rules are defined per table and field in a Ruby DSL; strategies include keeping, whitelisting, blacklisting or replacing values with random but realistic data such as names, addresses, emails and dates. It supports relational databases through ActiveRecord and MongoDB.

The tool is distributed as a Ruby gem under the MIT licence; its GitHub repository was last updated in January 2025.
