Android UI testing framework from Google
Espresso is the Android UI testing framework provided by Google as part of the Android testing libraries. Tests written in Kotlin or Java find views with matchers, perform actions on them (typing text, clicking) and check assertions, with a small, predictable core API that remains open to customisation.
Espresso automatically synchronises test actions with the user interface: before each action or assertion it waits until the message queue is idle, no AsyncTask is running and all developer-defined idling resources are idle. This removes the need for waits and sleeps and makes tests fast and reliable. Additional packages cover WebView support (espresso-web), background-task synchronisation (espresso-idling-resource), RecyclerView, drawer and accessibility checks (espresso-contrib), intent validation and stubbing (espresso-intents) and multi-process testing (espresso-remote).
Espresso is aimed at developers who write tests alongside the code under test. It is free and open source, distributed with the AndroidX Test libraries.
