Stress test a computer system and its kernel interfaces
stress-ng (stress next generation) stress tests a computer system in various selectable ways. It is designed to exercise the physical subsystems of a computer as well as the many interfaces of the operating system kernel.
It provides more than 390 stress tests, including over 100 CPU-specific tests for floating point, integer, bit manipulation and control flow, over 60 virtual memory tests, over 80 file system tests and over 50 memory and CPU cache tests. The tests, the number of workers and the duration are chosen from the command line, and metrics can be reported for each stressor. It is used to find hardware faults, thermal issues and kernel bugs, and to check how a system behaves under extreme load.
stress-ng builds on Linux and many other systems, such as the BSDs, macOS, Android and Solaris. It is free and open source under the GPL-2.0 licence.
