Pumba

Chaos testing and network emulation for containers

Tool overview

Pumba is a chaos testing and network emulation tool for Docker, containerd and Podman containers. Inspired by Netflix Chaos Monkey, it brings chaos engineering to the container level.

It can kill, stop, pause and remove containers, inject network delays, packet loss and other network faults with netem and iptables, and stress-test container resources. Target containers are selected by name, list or regular expression, and actions can run once or at regular intervals, which makes it possible to check how a containerised application behaves when one of its components fails or its network degrades.

Pumba is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 licence. It runs as a command-line tool or as a container, including in Kubernetes.
