act

act runs GitHub Actions workflows on the developer’s own machine. Changes to the workflow files in .github/workflows can be tested without committing and pushing each time, which gives faster feedback.

act reads the workflow files, works out the order of jobs from their dependencies, and uses the Docker API to pull or build the required images and run a container for each action. Environment variables and the file system are set up to match GitHub’s hosted runners. Besides testing workflows, act can be used as a local task runner instead of a Makefile.

act is free and open source under the MIT licence and is written in Go.
