Dagger

Programmable engine for portable CI pipelines

Tool overview

Dagger is an automation engine to build, test and ship any codebase. It replaces hand-written CI scripts with an API, real code and a portable execution engine based on a directed acyclic graph (DAG), so pipeline logic is decoupled from the environment it runs in.

The same pipeline can be triggered before or after a push, run locally, in an existing CI system or in Dagger’s cloud, and spin up multi-container environments just in time. Operations are cached automatically, traced end to end and extensible in the developer’s preferred language; coding agents can also set up and run Dagger pipelines, and Cloud Checks run them automatically after a push.

The Dagger engine is distributed under the Apache License 2.0 and actively developed on GitHub (version 0.21.10 in September 2026); Dagger Cloud is the commercial companion service.
