Dredd

Dredd is a language-agnostic command-line tool that validates an API description document against the back-end implementation of the API. It reads the description and checks, step by step, that the API replies with the responses described in the documentation.

It supports OpenAPI 2 (Swagger) descriptions, with experimental support for OpenAPI 3. Hooks, written in several supported languages, provide setup and teardown code for each test.

Dredd was developed by Apiary and is open source under the MIT licence. Its GitHub repository was archived in 2024 and is no longer maintained.
