Greenbone Community Edition (OpenVAS)

Open source vulnerability scanning and management

Tool overview

The Greenbone Community Edition is an open source vulnerability management framework, originally built as a community project named OpenVAS and primarily developed by Greenbone as part of its commercial Greenbone Enterprise product line.

Its architecture has three main parts: scanner applications, including the OpenVAS scanner, that run vulnerability tests (VTs) against target systems; the Greenbone Vulnerability Management Daemon (gvmd); and the Greenbone Security Assistant (GSA), the web interface, with its daemon gsad.

The components are released under open source licences so that Linux distributions can package them; the OpenVAS scanner is distributed under the GPL-2.0 and actively developed on GitHub.
