PII detection and anonymization for text and images
Presidio helps ensure that sensitive data is properly managed and governed. It provides fast identification and anonymization modules for private entities in text and images, such as credit card numbers, names, locations, social security numbers, phone numbers and financial data.
The analyzer detects personally identifiable information (PII) with named entity recognition, regular expressions, rule-based logic and checksums, and can be extended with custom recognisers. The anonymizer then replaces, masks, hashes, encrypts or redacts the detected entities. This is used, among other things, to produce anonymised copies of production data, logs or documents for test environments.
Presidio was created by Microsoft and is open source under the MIT licence. It is now transitioning to a community-owned project under the name Presidio by Data Privacy Stack. It runs as Python packages or Docker containers.
