Pylint

Static code analyser for Python

Tool overview

Pylint is a static code analyser for Python that analyses code without running it. It checks for errors, enforces a coding standard, looks for code smells and suggests how code could be refactored.

Pylint does not simply trust type annotations: it infers the actual values of nodes, which lets it find issues other tools miss. It is installed with pip, can also check spelling, and integrates with most editors and IDEs. The latest version supports Python 3.11 and above.

Pylint is distributed under the GPL-2.0 and actively developed on GitHub; version 4.1.3 was released in October 2026.
