UI Automator

UI Automator is an Android testing framework from Google that provides APIs to build UI tests interacting with user apps and system apps. Because it tests an app from outside of the app’s process, it can test release versions and interact with system elements, other applications and device settings, which in-process frameworks such as Espresso cannot reach.

UI Automator 2.4 introduced a modern, Kotlin-friendly domain-specific language that focuses on predicate-based element finding and explicit control over app states, making tests more concise, readable and robust; Google recommends it for new tests, while the legacy API remains documented.

UI Automator is free and open source, distributed with the AndroidX Test libraries.
