JavaScript library to control Chrome and Firefox
Puppeteer is a JavaScript library that provides a high-level API to control Chrome or Firefox over the Chrome DevTools Protocol or WebDriver BiDi. It runs headless by default and can also drive a visible browser.
It is used to automate browser interactions, for example in end-to-end tests: navigating to pages, setting the viewport, typing with the keyboard, locating elements by accessible name or text, waiting for elements and reading their content. The puppeteer package downloads a compatible Chrome at installation, while puppeteer-core can be used as a library with an existing browser. The chrome-devtools-mcp server, based on Puppeteer, exposes browser automation and debugging to AI agents.
Puppeteer is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and actively maintained on GitHub; version 25.14.0 is the current release documented on its site.
