ANDI

Accessible Name & Description Inspector bookmarklet

Tool overview

ANDI (Accessible Name & Description Inspector) is a free accessibility testing tool from the U.S. Social Security Administration. It is a bookmarklet (or favelet): once added to the bookmarks bar of a desktop browser, it can be launched on any web page.

ANDI provides automated detection of accessibility issues, reveals what a screen reader should announce for interactive elements (the accessible name computation), and gives practical suggestions to improve accessibility and check Section 508 compliance. Separate modules examine focusable elements, graphics, links, tables, structures, colour contrast and hidden content, which supports manual accessibility testing.

ANDI runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Its source code is published on GitHub.
