IBM Equal Access Accessibility Checker

Automated accessibility checking in the browser and in CI

Tool overview

The IBM Equal Access Accessibility Checker is a set of tools for automated accessibility testing, part of the IBM Equal Access Toolkit. The toolkit organises accessibility guidance by project phase (plan, design, develop, verify) and explains how to integrate the checker in the verify phase.

Browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Edge add automated accessibility checks to the developer tools, to find the source of issues and try fixes. For automated testing, the Node accessibility-checker package runs checks in continuous integration pipelines and works with test frameworks such as Selenium, Puppeteer and Playwright, so that pages can be validated against a baseline as part of a test suite.

The checker is developed by IBM and is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 licence.
