Declarative anonymization and data masking extension for Postgres
PostgreSQL Anonymizer is an extension that masks or replaces personally identifiable information (PII) and commercially sensitive data in a PostgreSQL database. Its goal is anonymization by design: masking rules are written by the people who develop the application and are declared with the PostgreSQL data definition language (DDL), directly in the table definitions.
Masked data can be produced in several ways, such as anonymous dumps, static masking of a database, dynamic masking for specific roles or masked replicas, which provides safe datasets for test and development environments. Masking functions include randomisation, faking, partial scrambling, shuffling, noise and generalisation, and custom functions can be added. Detection functions help find the columns that need to be anonymised.
PostgreSQL Anonymizer is developed by Dalibo and is open source. It is available on several Linux distributions, cloud providers and PostgreSQL forks, and as a Docker image.
