Consumer-driven contract testing, continuation of Spring Cloud Contract
Stubborn Contract is the official continuation of Spring Cloud Contract, the consumer-driven contract testing project for JVM applications. In July 2026 Spring Cloud Contract left the Spring Cloud portfolio, and development continues under the Stubborn organisation, led by one of its original creators.
Contracts written in Groovy, YAML, Java or Kotlin describe the expected requests and responses between services. From them, tests are generated to verify the producer, and WireMock stubs are produced so that consumers can test against the stub runner. Messaging contracts are supported for Kafka, RabbitMQ and JMS. Stubborn Contract is published under a new group ID with renamed packages and migration instructions, and adds a broker and dashboard for publishing and verifying contracts; existing Spring Cloud Contract contracts and stubs keep working.
The open source core, including the broker, Maven and Gradle plugins and CLI, is available under the Apache 2.0 licence. Enterprise partnerships fund further development.
