Concourse

Open source container-based CI/CD automation system

Tool overview

Concourse is an open source automation system focused on CI/CD, which its authors describe as a “continuous thing-doer”.

Pipelines are configured in YAML and work like a distributed, continuous Makefile. Jobs define build plans and can depend on other jobs, forming a dependency graph. Resources represent external artefacts, such as Git repositories, that pipelines watch and update, and resource types can be added to support other systems. Tasks are units of work that run in containers, each specifying its own image, which makes builds reproducible. The fly command-line tool sets and runs pipelines and gives access to build containers, and the web interface visualises pipelines to trace failures to their cause.

Concourse is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 licence.
