Static analysis for shell scripts
ShellCheck is a static analysis tool that finds bugs in shell scripts. Scripts can be pasted into the online editor on shellcheck.net to see warnings and apply fixes, or checked locally.
ShellCheck is packaged for most distributions and package managers (cabal, apt, dnf, pkg, brew), is supported as an integrated linter in major editors, and is available in CodeClimate, Codacy and CodeFactor to check GitHub repositories automatically. Each warning is documented on the ShellCheck wiki.
ShellCheck is written in Haskell, distributed under the GPL v3 and maintained on GitHub; version 0.11.0 was released in August 2025.
