Step CI

Step CI is an open source API quality assurance framework. It is language-agnostic: workflows are configured in YAML, JSON or JavaScript.

Different API types can be tested in one workflow, including REST, GraphQL, gRPC, tRPC and SOAP. Each step sends a request, captures values for later steps and checks the response. Step CI is self-hosted, so services can be tested on the local network, locally and in CI/CD pipelines. Tests can be generated from OpenAPI documents, and migration from Postman and Insomnia collections is documented. It is installed as a Node.js command-line tool.

Step CI is free and open source under the MPL-2.0 licence. Its code has not changed since August 2024.
